Wide-ranging consultations emphasize transparency, inclusivity, and judicial integrity
The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has held a stakeholder engagement forum as part of the ongoing process to recruit a Judge of the Supreme Court, reinforcing its commitment to a transparent and inclusive selection process.

The forum brought together a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including the Law Society of Kenya, International Commission of Jurists, Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA Kenya), Kituo Cha Sheria, Bunge la Wananchi, Kenya National Union of Teachers, and the Kenya Judicial Staff Association, alongside representatives from the Supreme Court.

Faith-based institutions were also represented, with participation from the Kenya Council of Church Alliances and Ministries, Evangelical Alliance of Kenya, Anglican Church of Kenya, and the Hindu Council of Kenya. The Executive Office of the President was likewise present, reflecting inter-institutional engagement in the recruitment process.

Academic institutions contributed to the discussions, with input from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, Strathmore University, and the Kenya School of Law, adding scholarly perspectives to the process.

The JSC described the exercise as a constitutional requirement that goes beyond procedure. “This exercise is not merely procedural; it is a constitutional imperative grounded in transparency, inclusivity, and the collective wisdom of our society,” the Commission noted.

Participants emphasized that the broad-based consultations are essential in strengthening public trust in the Judiciary and ensuring that the recruitment process reflects the values and expectations of Kenyans.

The engagement process is aimed at upholding accountability while ensuring that the appointment of a Supreme Court Judge is anchored in integrity, fairness, and merit. The JSC underscored that such forums are critical in safeguarding the independence and legitimacy of the Judiciary.

Through continued stakeholder involvement, the Commission seeks to ensure that the final appointment reflects a judiciary that is representative, credible, and responsive to the needs of the nation.
