Nairobi Hospital Dismisses Collapse Claims Amid Leadership Dispute, Affirms Service Continuity.
The Nairobi Hospital has strongly refuted claims of financial collapse, insisting operations remain stable despite an escalating governance dispute that has drawn in William Ruto.

Speaking during a press briefing on Thursday in Nairobi, the hospital’s Board of Management and Chief Executive Officer said reports suggesting the institution was in financial distress were “misleading and inaccurate,” emphasizing that patient care services continue uninterrupted.

“The Nairobi Hospital is not collapsing. We remain operationally stable, and our priority continues to be the delivery of quality healthcare to all our patients,” the board said in a joint statement.

The leadership disclosed that the hospital recorded revenues of Sh11.8 billion in 2025, with an average monthly income of Sh1.03 billion in the first months of 2026 figures they say demonstrate sustained financial inflows despite internal challenges. However, the board acknowledged that the hospital posted a net loss of Sh2.21 billion in 2024, attributing it to “legacy financial obligations and ongoing restructuring efforts.”

“While we registered a loss in 2024, this does not equate to insolvency. Measures are already in place to restore profitability and strengthen governance,” the CEO said
The press conference comes in the wake of a public dispute involving a section of doctors who reportedly sought intervention from President Ruto over alleged mismanagement. The hospital leadership distanced itself from the move, stating that the doctors acted without official mandate and outside established governance structures.

“The individuals who approached the President did so in their personal capacity and without the authority of the hospital. Established internal mechanisms for dispute resolution were bypassed,” the board stated.

President Ruto, who serves as the hospital’s ceremonial patron, has since intervened, reportedly ordering investigations and the arrest of individuals linked to the dispute, including former board chair Dr. Job Obwaka. The developments have heightened tensions within the institution.

Despite the leadership wrangles, the board maintained that clinical services have not been affected and reassured patients and stakeholders of continuity.

“All departments remain fully functional. There has been no disruption to patient care at any point,” hospital management said
The board further called for unity among stakeholders, urging all parties to resolve disputes through formal channels to safeguard the hospital’s reputation and long-term stability.

“We urge all members of the medical fraternity and stakeholders to engage constructively through official processes for the good of the institution and the patients we serve.”

The Nairobi Hospital is one of Kenya’s leading private healthcare providers, and the ongoing dispute marks one of the most significant governance challenges in its recent history.
