A court has ordered the detention of Beatrice Wangari for 10 days at Kilimani Police Station as investigations intensify into the death of Dr. Job Obwaka in Kitengela.
Wangari, who is believed to have been with the doctor in his final hours, will remain in custody pending the conclusion of police inquiries. The court directed that the case be mentioned on May 14 for further directions.
Police told the court they need more time to establish the circumstances surrounding the doctor’s death. “This is a sensitive matter that requires thorough investigations, including forensic analysis and verification of witness accounts,” the prosecution said.
Investigators also argued that releasing Wangari at this stage could compromise the probe. “There is a risk of interference with witnesses and critical evidence if the respondent is released before investigations are complete,” the court heard.
The court agreed with the prosecution, noting that the request for custodial orders was justified. “The application by the state is merited. The respondent shall remain in custody for 10 days pending investigations,” the magistrate ruled.
The death of Dr. Obwaka has sparked public interest, with authorities yet to disclose full details of what transpired before he was found dead. Police maintain that investigations are ongoing and have urged the public to allow due process.
Wangari did not take a plea, as the proceedings focused solely on the application for her detention.
Detectives are expected to update the court on the progress of investigations when the matter is mentioned next week.
