Residents in 14 Nairobi estates are set to experience a 24-hour water supply interruption following a major pipeline leak, the Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) has announced. According to Nairobi Water, the disruption was caused by a leak on a key transmission pipeline, prompting emergency repair works to prevent further water losses and restore normal operations. Technical teams have been deployed to the affected site and are working to repair the damaged section of the pipeline and conduct system tests before water supply resumes.
Areas Affected
The interruption is expected to affect residents and businesses in 14 estates and surrounding areas served by the affected pipeline. Nairobi Water said the outage will last approximately 24 hours as repair crews undertake maintenance works and restore pressure within the network.
Repair Works Underway
The utility company stated that engineers responded immediately after detecting the leak and have begun replacing damaged sections of the pipeline. The repair process also includes pressure testing and safety checks to ensure the integrity of the water distribution system before supply is restored.
Advisory to Residents
Nairobi Water has urged affected customers to use stored water sparingly and prioritize essential household needs during the interruption period. The company also noted that emergency water bowser services will be available for critical institutions and priority needs where necessary.
Expected Restoration
NCWSC expressed regret for the inconvenience caused and assured residents that every effort is being made to complete the repairs within the scheduled timeframe. Water supply is expected to resume once repair works are completed and the pipeline undergoes successful testing and commissioning.
The latest disruption comes as Nairobi Water continues efforts to address pipeline failures and maintain reliable water supply across the city amid growing demand and aging infrastructure.
