Corruption Fight Continues as EACC Arrests Former Taita Taveta Political Director over Fraud Allegations

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested former Taita Taveta County political director Geoffrey Mbogo over allegations of fraud involving KSh12.4 million. According to the anti-graft agency, Mbogo is expected to be arraigned today before the Voi Anti-Corruption Court to face charges related to the alleged fraudulent acquisition and misuse of public funds.

Alleged Fraud

The case stems from investigations into claims that Mbogo, who previously served in the Taita Taveta County Government, unlawfully obtained public funds through fraudulent transactions. The latest criminal proceedings follow earlier civil recovery efforts by the EACC, which sought to recover millions of shillings allegedly acquired illegally during his tenure.

Court Appearance

Mbogo is scheduled to appear before the Voi Anti-Corruption Court, where prosecutors are expected to formally present the charges against him. The court will determine whether he will take a plea and set the next steps in the case.

EACC's Anti-Corruption Drive

The arrest forms part of the EACC's ongoing efforts to investigate and prosecute cases involving the alleged misappropriation of public resources. The commission has continued to pursue both criminal prosecutions and recovery of assets believed to have been acquired through corruption and economic crimes.
