Wednesday Declared Public Holiday for Eid-ul-Adha in Kenya
The Government of Kenya has officially declared Wednesday, May 27, 2026, a public holiday in observance of Eid-ul-Adha.
In a special issue of The Kenya Gazette dated May 25, 2026, Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, Kipchumba Murkomen, confirmed the holiday under Section 3(1) of the Public Holidays Act.
“It is notified for the general information of the public that, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 3(1) of the Public Holidays Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration declares that Wednesday, the 27th May, 2026, shall be a public holiday to mark Eid-ul-Adha,” the gazette reads.
Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the most important celebrations in the Islamic calendar. It is observed by Muslims worldwide through prayers, charitable acts, and family gatherings, commemorating the spirit of sacrifice and devotion.
