Alex Chamwada is one of Kenya’s most respected journalists, boasting over two decades of experience in the media industry. Known for his insightful political analysis and compelling human interest stories, Chamwada has built a remarkable reputation both locally and internationally. Recognized by several newspapers and online blogs as one of Kenya’s top journalists, he has continuously remained relevant by delivering unique, timely, and impactful content.
Early Life and Education
Born on 16th August 1971, Alex Chamwada began his academic journey at St. Peter’s Mumias High School. After completing his O-levels, he joined Moi University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Information Science. Passionate about media and communication, he furthered his education with a postgraduate diploma in Mass Communication from the University of Nairobi. In 2004, Chamwada expanded his international exposure by pursuing a Master’s degree in Politics and Mass Media at the University of Liverpool.
Family Life
Alex Chamwada is married to Caroline Chamwada, and together they are proud parents of three children: Chelsea, Leon, and Kessey. In 2016, Chelsea achieved a remarkable 406 marks in her KCPE exams, earning a place in one of Kenya’s top schools—a proud moment Alex celebrated publicly on social media.
Career Journey
Alex Chamwada’s media career started in 1994 as a volunteer at the Kenyan Broadcasting Corporation (KBC). He later worked as a media liaison and marketing executive at a foundation promoting children’s science publications across Africa. Between 1995 and 1998, he volunteered at Trans World Radio, a multinational evangelical Christian media distributor active in Kenya.
In August 1999, Chamwada joined Kenya Broadcasting Network, before moving to Royal Media Services the same year. In 2001, he transitioned to Kenya Television Network (KTN) as a senior reporter and was promoted to Political Editor in 2005.
Chamwada returned to Royal Media Services in 2008 as an Associate Editor, where he covered major political stories and became a household name. In 2014, he resigned to pursue independent journalism, announcing:
"Today marks a turning point in my broadcast journalism career. The Royal Media Services (RMS) has accepted my resignation as an Associate Editor/Reporter to enable me to start a new journey to the next level. I will soon be back on the TV screen near you with current affairs as an independent content producer. I would like to thank the wonderful team at RMS for their priceless contribution to my growth as a journalist."
This marked the end of a 20-year journey as a hired journalist and the beginning of a new chapter as an independent content creator.
