Alai vs Babu on KCSE Classes

Tensions flared in Nairobi this morning, Friday, September 5, 2025, as Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai vowed to file a court petition against Embakasi East MP Paul Babu Owino’s free KCSE mathematics revision classes. Speaking at 11:12 AM East Africa Time outside City Hall, Alai accused Babu of using the program for political gain and violating election laws. "This is voter inducement; I’ll stop it in court," Alai declared. Babu’s initiative, serving thousands of Form Four students since July, has drawn praise but now faces legal scrutiny.

Alai claims the classes misuse constituency funds and create unfair political advantage. Babu insists it’s community service, stating yesterday, "I teach to empower, not to campaign." The petition, set for next week, may halt the program pending judicial review. A parent in Thika said, "Why block free education?" A trader in Nakuru added, "It’s just politics."

Public opinion is split. In Kisumu, a teacher noted, "Students need help, not drama." In Mombasa, a youth asked, "Will this affect exams?" Both leaders, from the same party, highlight internal rivalry. Alai’s legal team prepares evidence, while Babu vows to continue until November exams.

The case could set precedent on political use of education programs. A Nairobi analyst said, "Proving intent will be hard." A student in Garissa remarked, "Let us study in peace." As the legal battle looms, its impact on candidates remains uncertain.
